Man Earns 422 Million Amex Points with Single Purchase

Bloomberg news is reporting a Chinese collector has earned nearly 422 million American express rewards points with the single purchase of an ancient ceramic cup at auction. Liu Yiqian paid HK$281 million (US$36 million) for the purchase using his American Express Centurion credit card — commonly referred to as the Amex Black Card — earning him a grand total of 421,860,000 American Express rewards points.

Liu, who had a celebratory drink from the cup prior to the purchase, had to sign 24 separate Amex receipts to finalize the purchase due to limits on credit card transactions. Liu plans to house the cup in his private Museum in Shanghai, the Long Museum.
